people rarely think about it, and if it does come up, they often think it's perfectly normal or reasonable. especially in romantic situation. i've known plenty of people who believe in diversity and would never rule out dating anyone on the basis of something like race or religion, but would absolutely refuse to date anyone outside their desired height parameters (usually men refusing to date a taller woman, or a woman refusing to date a shorter man).

statistics show that taller people get paid more, get promoted faster, get put in leadership roles more readily, etc.

on the other hand, average to slightly below average height people tend to live longer, so we've got that on our side
