In reply to the discussion: Do men have a problem with being short? Jeff Sessions, John Piper and Robert Jeffress [View all]unblock
(56,113 posts)29. yeah, it's one of the more "invisible" forms of discrimination
people rarely think about it, and if it does come up, they often think it's perfectly normal or reasonable. especially in romantic situation. i've known plenty of people who believe in diversity and would never rule out dating anyone on the basis of something like race or religion, but would absolutely refuse to date anyone outside their desired height parameters (usually men refusing to date a taller woman, or a woman refusing to date a shorter man).
statistics show that taller people get paid more, get promoted faster, get put in leadership roles more readily, etc.
on the other hand, average to slightly below average height people tend to live longer, so we've got that on our side

Five foot 7 inches is not short to me, a very short woman, but a lot of society does consider it so

As a short woman, I resent the implication in our society that "taller" is automatically better.

Pete Buttigieg manages to be short without feeling the need to make up for it by being a jerk. nt
