(804 posts)Our son was estranged from us for a couple of years after the election. I continued to invite him and his family to all of our family gatherings. I had decided that if he did not respond to the invitations, then that would be HIS choice not to come and not ours. We never heard from them. Until last summer that is. It appears his wife was cheating on him and they divorced. He needed his family and our support. He started by communicating with his siblings and then reached out to us. I got a message from him a couple of weeks ago and he made a point to say "I love you guys, and I'm sorry I haven't shown it more often." So don't give up. If they are that rigid in their thinking, I would guess that there will be problems ahead. Keep the lines of communication open, because you never know when your love and support will be welcomed.
