Of course we did. In support of US foreign policy and intelligence objectives, as discussed within the intelligence community and then with the White House. This is not news, and on a macro level it is not really much of a secret. The secret part arises when you get to the nuts and bolts, and that should most definitely be secret.

The problem arises when the cheating, lying, and stealing is done by American officials, on US soil, and directed against America.

The problem gets worse when you know with 100% certainty that Russians lied, cheated and stole, on US soil, directed against America, and American officials not only did nothing about it, but denied that the Russians were responsible for it. On the one hand, you gotta give the Russians credit for such audacious operations. But they wouldn't have been successful were it not for Republican complicity at every step along the way.
