That said that was what happened during the Johnson impeachment and it takes a 2/3 vote to overrule the Chief Justice. But the Chief Justice would have final say on who would be permitted to be a witness and one of the criteria would be relevance to the current case. But Roberts is a pretty political justice so no slam dunk.
