Conservative Catholics have been upset that Obama has been invited to New York's Al Smith Dinner. I'm thinking inviting Dolan to the convention was a way of trying to calm waters. Quite frankly, I wouldn't have bothered, given the general attitude of conservative Catholics toward Obama. They would not vote for him even if he were Christ incarnate.
