their defense was "so what? it wasn't that bad." Romney was the only one
who couldn't abide this dissonance.

The ruthless Republicans acquitted him anyway, but not because he was innocent
or because it was the right thing to do.

They acquitted him because they had the power to do so. This was
an exercise in POWER, not justice. Now they are twisting themselves in knots
trying to justify their abdication of duty.
