Ann Romney on Friday discussed her personal fight to "remember the joy in life" and urged voters, especially women, in the battleground state of Virginia to look to her husband, Mitt Romney, to improve lives on an individual level.

"Our message is really for all Americans, and it really is boiling down to this: America, we can do better," she said. She spoke directly to the fact that the GOP presidential candidate is known for his personal financial success.

"But we're not going to apologize for that, recognizing that the individual is what this country is about, not government," she said, confronting the clash in themes between the GOP and Democratic conventions over the last two weeks. "It's that hope and promise we're going to be fighting for."

Ann Romney spoke at a "Women for Mitt" rally held at the Twin Oaks Riding Academy in Leesburg, Va.

"Welcome to horse country," said Susan Allen, the wife of former Virginia Gov. George Allen, while introducing Ann Romney. "Do you know Virginia is for lovers? Virginia is for horse lovers, too.
