My hypothesis is, these are people who thought they could skate through life on white male privilege alone. Prior generations of white males had done just that so why not them? They thought they didn't have to think too hard, work too hard or accomplish much to have the same lives their parents had. All they had to do was show up and be white and male. A radically changing economy changed all that forever. Due to laziness, inertia or whatever, instead of adapting to change like any rational person would, they're looking hard for scapegoats and messiahs. They've found both. I have two folks in my family just like that. They have this bizarre idea that society owes them a good living, regardless of their lack of a contemporary skill set, just because they're white and male. They are precisely what they accuse minorities of being. And boy do they love IQ45. Both are also well aware that I wouldn't piss on either one of them if they were on fire.
