I have my own theory that he is in this for the full Monty and that is total dictatorship within the shortest time possible. His personality itself predicts that and he has been rather successful so far, IMHO.

This is the primary reason that the GOP wants to ride his tail. They are confident that a con man like him can do it.

Now that his narcissism has been stoked by the successes of conditioning the population and deteriorating the system, the next logical step is total control. Imagine being where he is at with all his personality disorders and mastery of confidence games? Where else could you go in order to get your fix? I am certain that all dictators have proclivities that we would find very difficult to understand and their motivations towards power and control are also quite different.

To resign or lose the election would be major letdowns to his persona and a failure to accomplish his ulterior motives and ultimate goal.

I guess I should say, bookmark that and we will be finding out soon enough.
