Guess it wasn't clear. They don't stay on the hard hat when they are over your mouth and nose.

HEPA filters are still in stores, used for vacuum cleaners, etc., wear under a scarf.

Bad information. Masks do protect (though they improve your odds, rather than being virus-proof).
