Yes, the contrast is alarming. That's another good and related point here.

I used to think of Dubya an inept, frat boy and the worst President to date. One of the reasons was it was clear he was not the "brains" in the operation, but more like a Howdy Doody puppet for show in many cases.

Now, the worst is much worse than I could have imagined back then.
