we now understand how "good Germans" took Hitler's rise to power in stride.

Resentment, fear and hatred of The Other, conspiracy theories, denial of science, anti-vax, lies. What a way to live your life in the 21st century.

It would be sad if it weren't so exhausting and dangerous.
