(111,222 posts)the prototype SARS vaccine notwithstanding. It was ready for large scale trials, but SARS disappeared and it was shelved.
The other coronaviruses in humans are nuisance diseases, like the common cold. They suck for seven days and then we're better. There are so many strains out there that a vaccine has been impractical.
Most viruses are species specific, species jumps likely didn't happen often until we domesticated farm animals. It's well known from the archaeological record that health and lifespan both declined due to the agricultural revolution. There is no reason to vaccinate bats and pangolins and other animals against coronaviruses, they seem to cope with them the way we cope with the common cold.
They already know how the virus infects cells. Our own immune systems are what make us feel like shit, increasing our body temperature and creating rivers of mucus in an attempt to flush virus from our bodies.
Science is doing all the things you want it to, it just takes time.
In the meantime, just be sensible, stay away from crowds, wash your hands properly, mask if you've got one, and stop worrying yourself even sicker.
