11. Dumb analogy. Viruses aint water

Viruses are so small that they can't be imaged using photons. You have to shoot electrons at them to see them at all. So for this analogy to work:

First you wear wide open, see through mesh, sexy! Water goes right through that and you're going to smell bad until you take a shower and wash your undies. That's a cloth mask.

So you wear some cotton pants and a t-shirt next time. Water takes a little longer to soak through, but you're still going to smell bad until you take a shower and wash everything. That is the paper surgical mask.


Well, that didn't work, so now it's neoprene or rubberized canvas. Nothing goes through, it just rolls off. It's a lot sweatier, but at least you don't smell like pee. That's the N-95 mask.

All of these options are uncomfortable. Cloth and paper will work somewhat, but need to be changed when they get wet with condensation. N-95 masks will still work when soggy, they're just unpleasant.
