Nope. He was a con man, as in "confidence man" in every sense of the word.

He would suck up to rich people telling them that he would make them richer.

In the business world he was a slimy used car salesman with a lot full of clunkers and anything he couldn't sell he would strip for parts.

He would go into each place along the way and tell the assembled people whatever he felt they wanted to hear, be it a local bank loaning the business money to keep their town alive or the brokers to bid up the stock before the sell off.

He has left a trail of victims in his wake but doesn't CARE because his rich clients got richer and he got the crumbs.
