They were government agents trained to infiltrate civil rights and anti war groups. They provoked violence at peaceful demonstrations. They went to local organizing and awareness meetings to push ideas that would allow them to act like the guy in the Minneapolis video.
A friend of mine was a Kent State student in 1970. The shootings there occurred on a Monday. On Friday night and during the day on Saturday, she saw thes escalation of anti war protests to violence and went home that Saturday. Her parents kept her home on Monday.
She said that several Kent students, including herself, were suspicious of people on campus pushing an escalation of the protests. That's why she went home.
Trump is now using the Minneapolis riots as an excuse to start shooting protesters, according to NPR this morning. Trump has tweeted that the military should be called in to shoot at looters. Twitter hid the tweet as "glorifying violence" but says it is accessible by clicking on it.
Trump knows he is losing the vote. He wants escalation in order to claim emergency powers that he will use against non-white America.
