Of course my Dad was a Republican of a different era. Despite the fact that he could be emotional and vocal about politics from time to time, he made it a point to temper his views with facts, research, skepticism and reason. Admittedly he was the sort of Republican who was skeptical about the innate goodness and perfect ability of humanity and unfavorable towards expanding government and bigger bureaucracies, but he did not believe in giving knee-jerk support towards big business and the pseudo-libertarian views that permeate the R’s today.

I think he would have studied Donnie’s character and business dealings, then, with irritation and occasional grumbling, have voted for the church-going Methodist grandmother in 2016.

Of course his sort of Republican has been driven to near-total extinction by right-wing RINO-hunters.
