To have him elected and then allow him to be impeached. They could blame the impeachment on the Democrats and retain the Trump voters. The vice President, could then be eligible for two more Republican terms. They could retain power on Trump's back and then try to restore some fantasy of honor in the party.

What would be really interesting is if the Republicans replaced the VP at the convention.
