People aren't usually this smug about being an asshole unless it's ingrained from their youth:

Without knowing the conditions of his position on that commission, I'm not convinced this is much of a smackdown. For a volunteer fire chief, sometimes those aren't much more than honorary, perhaps with a stipend and expenses paid for meetings.
