You shouldn't have to log in to browse. How do you think we get new members? A great way to alienate someone who stumbled onto DU. We would lose them within 2 to 3 clicks.
You shouldn't have to scroll through hundreds of ads to get to the substance of a thread. It makes DU seem like a scam site. It did go away after I logged in.
I don't mind the ads, except I DO mind the ones that pop up in front of the thread. I do occasionally click on an ad, and may even buy something.
I didn't mind the fund drives. I would rather have DU funded that way, over click bait, or posters sporting the gold star indicating teacher's pet.
Ironic. The fund drives were eliminated so we could have ad driven financial support. Now there are so many ads that there are an actual distraction. BUT, I can avoid the ads all together if I become a Gold Star Member (in essence another name for a "fund drive"
