(60,423 posts)Nothing would please them more than for the Democratic party to lay off and act as if we had already won the White House, 61 Senate seats and increased the House majority, only to wake up to another "surprise Republican upset" the morning after election day. Since 2000, we have been seeing those. We win when we win decisively. Cliffhangers that go our way are few and far between.
Despite what the conventional wisdom says, the voting machines, according to one DARPA techie in my family, are manipulable, pre-programable, and hackable, even without a direct internet connection, and their software is little changed since 2002. Detection of the manipulation is also traceable by forensic inspection, which is why the Republican companies that make them got that court order declaring them "private property," whose owners do not have to subject them to examination, only report their "results." I doubt they do it everywhere, because we can get court orders in flagrant cases, too. But when it counts, I'm sure they do it (Ohio 2004, anyone?). Just ask Max Cleland.
Or does anyone REALLY believe that when that one Ohio voting machine that WAS examined in 2004 gave Bush 3000 votes in a precinct with 600 registered voters, it was just a "glitch," as the Republican operators claimed, and then STILL refused to let the rest be examined?
I'm sure that if the Republican strategists got their way, polls would be released saying Biden was ahead by 40 points and that the Democrats are coasting to a two thirds majority in the Senate. Fine, but let's work like the opposite is true. There will be plenty of time to celebrate our hard work AFTER the election, and you can believe they are giving their people exactly that same message. In the meantime, figure they will be saying what they want US to hear.
