Win or lose the election, if he resigned, Pence becomes President and could grant a blanket pardon. Pence has nothing to lose at that point and there could not be a legal issue over trump pardoning himself, as he theorizes he can. Trump leaves clean as newly fallen snow from any Federal charges.

Even if Trump pulls out a win, he will not serve more than a few months at most.
