After he loses, though, he resigns, picks up his federal blanket pardon from Pence and takes his chances with NY State prosecutions, which probably would not end up happening, anyhow.
There's no positive thing to be gained by resigning before the election, but plenty to be gained by resigning after he loses.
Trump will play for his best odds, i think.

Would not surprise me in the least if he left Pence carrying the can and then blamed him for losing.
