Police have gotten the benefit of the doubt for many years because of the dangerous nature of the job and because there has been the desire to accept that police are honest.

There have been more and more episodes that show that police behave dishonestly. This is yet another example. Was it a mistake that got blown out of proportion? OR was it deliberate deception, designed to paint the police as victims and shift blame.
