(58,785 posts)the real thing without lapse. I'd never risk losing an election to the death-to-progressivism Republicans because of some bizarre delusion that there was little difference between them and me.
Nor would I ever for a moment want to elect anyone to government who supported an attempt to overset my Democratic vote, and those of many millions of others. The closest I come to religion is commitment to representative government of, by and for the people.
And with both progressive service to the people and commitment to serving the will of the people in mind, everyone should be able to understand that I'd be extremely unhappy at my congressman serving a national "constituency's" frivolous wishes instead of my and my district's wishes. And costing us dearly.
There won't be another Amazon headquarters, bringing in a prospective 50,000 jobs and drawing more tech businesses, coming along any time soon. If I lived in that district, I'd have never forgotten NYC's terrible economic stagnation of the 1970s and what it did to people then. Economists say this year that disastrous fiscal crisis could hit NYC again, and soon.
This isn't a theoretical decision but real life. Of course I'd be trying to decide who'd do the least harm until I had choices that suited me better in 2022.
PTWB, I'd need to learn as much as I could about her, but I just talked myself into suspecting MCC might be the better choice for the next two years. In a district that blue it should be easy to get rid of her if she didn't serve her constituents' wishes. And you can believe me when I say I wouldn't hesitate. Our reps owe us everything. We owe them normal courtesy as we monitor their performance, and that's all.
