The statement some people revert to, "All lives matter," goes without saying, and nobody is claiming otherwise, but the point is that black lives have so often been treated as if they didn't matter as much as others, or even that they didn't matter at all. So there's no reason to add to it or explain it. If you don't get what it means, or if you have to harrumph about how "all lives matter," you don't get any of it.
