(15,541 posts)I'm white, and I used to have a white friend / coworker who often sent me links to attacks of white men by African Americans -- e.g., the "knockout game".
It didn't affect me because I know it's not the norm, and it's possible to demonize just about anyone or anything with a concerted effort. For example, I could post videos of dogs that attack people or only the stories of them mauling people. I have no desire to do that, but the obvious goal of such behavior would be to steer the audience toward a particular narrative that doesn't represent dogs as a whole.
The Russians are probably playing a role in racial strife too.
Edit:
And algorithms of the internet often keep people in extremist bubbles too. A person who searches for attacks on white men will tend to get MORE links to similar stories.
Google obviously knows that I'm very interested in Covid-19 now because I get a lot of stories about it. In the past, it kept sending me stories about quantum mechanics, which I'd searched many times previously.
