Use brown sugar if you don't have molasses: ketchup, lemon juice, a pinch of heat from cayenne, apple cider vinegar, worcester sauce, mustard.

I've heard of apple sauce being used as part of the sweetning.

Lots of recipes out there, including options for adding smoky flavor.
