But they are very good neighbors, completely inconspicuous except when they run their modest fair, which is mainly for the elementary students from the school across the street. To my knowledge there haven't been any problems, but it looks like it's been there several decades, probably from the time of the Khmer Rouge in 1975, when we were fighting the Vietnam war, so there could well have been some resistance from local vets in the early years. I didn't live here then. Is it comparable to Scientology? Yes in the sense that they figured out how to get along and the Karen Bass speech seems to have been given in recognition of an effort by Scientologists to do the same. And they haven't been in the headlines lately so it looks like maybe they succeeded.
