The end of days". It really looked like it was the beginning of the end for America, and maybe the planet.

It wasn't. What it taught us is that life is a constant struggle and while there's a good chance it will all fall apart, there's just as good a chance it will get better.

It's not just Republicans and Democrats or Conservatives and Liberals-- it is the constant state of life itself that we are always in some sort of competition and some groups will take that competition to its ultimate end.

In the darkest days of the Depression, we got Roosevelt and England got Churchill. Germany got Hitler, Russia got Stalin, and Japan had the warlords in control.

Was there a Hand of God or just the luck of the draw that let us stop the total destruction of life back then? We don't know, but it seems all have not learned the painful lessons of those days.

Some day the US will no longer demand the respect that turned Germany and Japan from vicious and primitive war machines into the leading lights of freedom and invention they are today. I am simply hoping that day is not today.

(SHIT! I meant to be encouraging, but now I just depressed myself.)
