While its possible some of them were mailed by the person, who then died before the postmark was applied, it also sounds like some of them were mailed by someone weeks after the voter died.

That being said, if the signature on the ballot matches the voter registration, indicating that it was signed by the voter while alive, there's a valid argument it should count even if someone else mailed it or the postmark was otherwise applied after the person died. If someone goes to the polls and votes and is hit by a truck after the leaving the polling place, their vote counts even if they died before the vote was "counted."
