My grandfather (mom's side) was a Navy vet of WWII, my stepfather Korea Marine, my brother Army Viet Nam. Thankfully, none were injured physically, but all were injured mentally. None really talked about their service, except my brother. He would talk about when he was stationed in Germany and Thailand, but never about when he was actually in Viet Nam. I have pictures of my grandfather on his ship goofing around with his buddies... He was the chief cook. When he got out of the service, he opened a restaurant with my grandmother. He was so smart. I remember sitting with him and doing the daily crossword in both English and German. His parents had immigrated to the US in the 20's from Germany. I remember in 7th grade, when I was called into the principal's office the day he died, and sent home from school... I still miss him so much.
