The alternative you suggest—Woodward write a story that the president is a hypocrite—would be useless.

In a perfect world, Woodward releases off-the-record recordings when it matters most. Now.

Sadly, a revelation of Trump’s neglect is more powerful with 190,000 dead than 30,000.

But Woodward revealing that Trump knew what medical professionals knew about lethality wouldn’t have reduced the number of deaths. Epidemiologists knew the seriousness, only Trump supporters didn’t.

And they needed a haircut and didn’t care.
