(10,885 posts)for his job promotion. At this point, I'm not sure if we'll ever be together again, which breaks my heart. His company will pay for the family to return to the U.S. for a couple of visits per year, but my grands are at an age - 10 and 14 - where travel around Europe will be a fun, stimulating, and educational benefit that can't be replicated. I'm encouraging them to "see the world" as a family while they can, and not to be tied to the thought of having to return to the U.S. during their vacation weeks. They've already experienced so much that is new and exciting to them, and I hope they take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way. Christmas is already booked for their stay at an ice hotel and a skimobile tour in the north of the country.
It's difficult and dangerous enough to even visit with my relatively local family for the time being. My son here is working from home, and my older grands are remote learning for all their classes at the moment. We've interacted in person very rarely, opting instead for phonecalls and Facetime. I'm accustomed to living alone, however I'm beginning to feel the "isolation" aspect of it more lately, but I'm also in a high-risk category where COVID could easily "be the death of me". Sometimes the choices are made for you.
