2. I hate the idea.

I love to drive. And the thought that my safety is to be in the hands of some programmer (I'm a programmer, btw) who wrote software which, face it, will be designed to accommodate the earning schedules of insurance companies, gives me the heebie geebies.

However, I see a time in the not-so-distant future, where we won't be ALLOWED to drive our cars ourselves, except perhaps in sporting events. And that time will come long before the software and other controls are anywhere near reliable enough to warrant that handover of control.
