New neighborhood lawn signs. Also trees. [View all]

I haven't posted any new lawn signs since last week, but even though the neighborhood is now pretty sign-saturated I have still managed to discover a few goodies during my daily walks:

And as for trees, one of the cool things about the neighborhood is that there are still some elms left. About 90% of the city's elms were killed off during the Dutch elm blight of the '70s, but a few managed to survive; I counted six on just one block. And, having had another 40+ years to keep growing, they are enormous. They must be at least 60-70' tall and the trunks take up the entire boulevard strip and push into the sidewalk. When they were all along the streets they formed a kind of tunnel, and that's gone now, but I'm glad there are still some around. They're magnificent trees.
