(8,042 posts)and interesting assessment. It does sound like he very well may have some kind of personality disorder.
I think of my siblings and I (there were four of us but two are now gone) - who've been progressives and socially aware and active for most of our lives. My only brother and the oldest in the family voted Republican a couple of times but I blame that on his wife at the time. Our parents marched with those who marched with Martin Luther King, were very much against the Vietnam War (even though most in their generation supported it), and were true progressives.
I remember my brother (who was 10 years older than I and in high school at the time) insisted that the family take part in the Cesar Chavez grape boycott. My parents were so proud of him and, of course, no grapes in my house!
My one sister who's alive now and I speak all the time about the current situation. She's eight years older than I, and she's one of the most politically astute people I know. I'm so thankful that we are absolutely in alignment with our beliefs as our are two nephews and their amazing, socially conscious wives....
When I read stories like yours regarding your brother I know what a bummer it must be. Having said that, it's awesome that your dad's voting for Biden! And is sounds like you and your husband raised wonderful kids
