6. I'm sorry but I find this thinking a little naive

It has worked for the GOP but, like it or not, I don't think it will work for us. This approach disregards the ability that the GOP has to set the narrative and generate negativity against us.

It sucks that they can do that and we could argue all day about why that is and how to fight it. But until things change, we should be careful in assuming that we can pull off the same kinds of shenanigans.

The best example is the ACA. That was voted in with a procedural work around to avoid the filibuster and it hurt us for a decade. The misinformation campaign kicked in and it was nearly still-born before it ever even went into effect. It birthed the tea-party and we got clobbered in the mid-terms. We are still fighting that battle to keep it alive and not really getting much credit for the good it has done.

It was certainly worth doing and I agree we need to make aggressive advances. But I think it is nonsense to say just-do-it and proclaim victory.

And of course that all assumes that our caucus is progressive enough to do it. I don't believe it is. We are fighting structural disadvantages in the Senate and gerrymandering in the House. Many of our caucus are moderates by design. Again, something we can argue about all day but I am not convinced that we have the votes for big moves. It sucks but that is the price of playing the hand we are dealt.
