(7,715 posts)It happened once before with William Howard Taft who, after his Presidency, became Chief Justice. Unfortunately, when Joe wins, it's unlikely he'll get to pick a CJ, and I doubt Barack would settle for anything less.
That being said, Taft had been a federal judge before he became President.
Of course, it's just a dream about an ideal world/utopia, but wouldn't it be great for Barack Obama to sit on the US Supreme Court with lifetime tenure!!?!
(B/t/w the last time a Democratic President picked a Chief Justice of SCOTUS who was confirmed was 1946 by Harry Truman! Folks, that was 74 years ago. The Rs have played the SCOTUS game well. Once they saw the social changes brought about the Warren Court (and remember that Earl Warren was nominated by Ike), they clearly have done everything they can to control this branch of the US government. It's all the more reason to consider judicial reforms).
