19. The WWII photo that has always haunted me (graphic warning)

This was the first photo released by the war department and published in national media that showed U.S. soldiers killed in battle. It appeared in the September 1943 issue of LIFE Magazine, and was taken on Buna Beach during the Battle of Buna-Gona, Papua, that lasted from November 16th, 1942, until January 22, 1943.

This is the photo that came to mind when I heard Trump's quotes for the first time.

Probably too graphic for the Lincoln Project.
