the notion that some will exploit the system, I liken it to the death penalty.

It should not exist because of the chance of executing an innocent person. Sure, people who might deserve to forfeit their life will live but an innocent won't die.

Aid from the government? Yeah, some undeserving will get benefits but many in dire need will get help that may well save their lives. Well worth the risk.
