and the likelihood of getting to that is extremely remote. But, if it were to occur, we probably would part ways. It would be messy, but no shooting war. Unlike 1861, we're too integrated economically and culturally for that. In my mind, it's more of a question of how to divide up the military's assets versus what side the Pentagon is on. And lots of "I'll give you the southwestern part of NY for the eastern half of PA. And on and on.
That's just a thought experiment. The likelihood of that and what might cause it are extremely remote. But it is Vladimir Putin's dream scenario. The only way he gets his gas station masquerading as a country back on top.
