In reply to the discussion: Nikki Haley gets roasted by AOC [View all]Celerity
(53,758 posts)is said and done. Trump had a large increase in raw popular vote totals too, so it wasn't like Biden's massive numbers were solely built on centre-left, centrist, and conservative Dems plus defections from Republicans.
The younger voters and the progressive votes turned out in droves for Biden. If you think that AOC, Bernie and many of the other progressives literally had zero impact on driving the younger voters and the progressives to the polls you simply do not understand electoral politics. She campaigned her ass off for Biden, as did Bernie. If she had not, if Bernie had not, they would be getting flayed alive. That alone shows they have impact, as you cannot bang on them if whatever they do is basically meaningless. I also do not think, based upon your overall tenor and tone, that you know as many voters my age (the 18-30yo cohort, I am dead in the middle at 24) group as I do, and even if you do, you do not you seem to understand them as well. That is simply my opinion, based upon this colloquy and your posting elsewhere. If you did understand those cohorts better, you would understand what a huge impact she has on the 40 and under groups. You seem to overly concerned with trying to minimise and/or negate any and all about AOC in terms of any impact (other than a negative). It is rather curious.
Biden himself certainly thought she aids him.

about that youth vote............................
The Latest: Updated Youth Voter Turnout Estimate
https://circle.tufts.edu/latest-research/election-week-2020
Updated November 18 | 10:30 a.m. ET According to CIRCLEs exclusive estimates, youth turnout was much higher in the 2020 election than in 2016.
Our calculations, based on votes counted as of November 18, suggest that 52%-55% of voting-eligible young people, ages 18-29, cast a ballot in the 2020 presidential election. Using the same methodology and data from a week after the election in 2016, we had previously estimated that youth voter turnout in 2016 was 42-44%.
In addition, we are projecting that once all votes are counted, youth turnout may rise to 53%-56%. Our 2016 projection based on the same data was that youth voter turnout that year would be 45%-48%. Its notable that even the early youth turnout estimate for 2020 is higher than the projected estimate from 2016.

Name me some other Dems who can draw 5 million views in less than day for an online campaign event (and it was a campaign event, to try and say it wasn't would betray a profound lack of understanding about youth culture in 2020).
I watched multiple online, highly promoted Biden (himself) events, and almost all of them struggled to get between 15 and 25,000 live (some had as few as 2400 real time streamers) views, and certainly came nowhere near 1.5 million live and 5 million in the first 24 hours view. Obviously Bide drew HUGE numbers for the Convention, dwarfing Trumps, and he had huge numbers for his big townhall on regular telly, but Biden is the centrepiece, the one running for the Presidency, and I never, ever claimed he was not effective, amazingly so. I am simply pushing back on your diminution attempt towards AOC.
The gamer vote: Democrats lean into video games to aid Biden campaign

On a Tuesday night, two weeks before the 2020 presidential election, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) murdered a star video game streamer in cold blood.
It feels like an honor to get murdered by AOC, said Imane Pokimane Anys, who played the murder mystery game Among Us with Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and a host of other notable streamers during an hours-long session on live-streaming platform Twitch.
