90. When I did that post

upthread about Gennady Golovkin, I was secretly hoping someone else interested in boxing might recognize his name and respond, but I never thought someone with such a rich boxing background as yours would be the one to reply, so thank YOU very much because I, too, have surely enjoyed this conversation!

In a previous post you mentioned how a friend of you and your brother died in a bout in Syracuse. Then you brought up Carmen Basilio. Basilio was one of my dad's all time favorite boxers (Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson were his other favorites), so as a young kid, I idolized Basilio as well. I'm sure you know that Norm Rothschild promoted Basilio. The thing is, my very elderly mom and late father were very good friends with Norm and Ada Rothschild. My dad knew Norm from some kind of a connection with both of them being in the navy. Because of our conversation in this thread, when I talked to my mom on the phone tonight, I asked her about the Rothschilds. She said Norm and Ada were the most wonderful people anyone could ever know. Before my parents moved upstate from the city, she said Norm and Ada would come down the city to see them and they'd go out to a show together. My mom was so happy that I asked her about them tonight. She even rambled on about how Ada was a fine tap dancer and stuff like that.

I'm sorry to hear the condition your older brother is in, but I'm wondering if a legal treatment with psychedelic drugs might be something that could possibly help your brother. They are doing a lot of good research on it now.

I never saw those boxing threads you mentioned, but it's probably because I usually only look at the GD forum, or maybe I was "on leave" from DU at the time. There are times when I take long breaks from DU, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for months or even years, when I need to get other stuff done or if I just need a break from politics, or in the instance of a year ago when I was suspended for a while, I guess for having too many posts of mine removed in a short period of time in the Primaries forum. Anyway, thanks again for the chat and for your "blow by blow" description of your friendship with Rubin Hurricane Carter and all the other things you mentioned!
