Is it possible to reach the urban dwelling Repub/Trump voter? Or are they too far gone? [View all]

22 out of Michigan's 83 counties are classified as urban as defined by the US Census Bureau.

In the recent election, Trump got 2,649,852 votes in the state. 73% of those votes, 1,945,543, came from the 22 urban counties. In Wayne County alone, Detroit and surrounding suburbs, Trump got 263,863 votes.

In the rural counties, Trump got anywhere from the high 50% to 70% of the vote in each county and even higher in a few but that translated to 11,546 votes, per rural county. In the urban counties, Trump got anywhere from 30% to the low 50% range of the vote and that translates to an average of 88,472 voters per urban county.

Because of the numbers, there really isn't much point, IMHO, in trying to increase our share of the vote in rural areas because they lack the numbers. The real fight is in the urban counties and it'd be much more productive for us to increase our share of the vote there by 1-2% then it would be to do the same in rural counties. We'd have to increase our share of the vote in rural counties by 20%-30% to have some impact and think of the compromises we'd have to make to achieve that.

In order to do this, increasing the turnout of our base in the urban counties, and our base is a big tent, would be the way to go as it'd be very hard to convert a standard, run of the mill Repub and many of the Trumpsters are just too far out of reach.
