5. He got away with a lot back in the day because, as we've seen, it's extraordinarily hard to pin him

Local law enforcement just didn't have the time, staff or means to untangle his Byzantine corporate and personal shenanigans. It probably wasn't deemed worth it to spend years in court and millions of dollars going after a two bit hustler like him.

But once he became president and he began to abuse his power in people's faces and Mueller and Congress started investigating him, it became easier for NY to take up the investigation. They will be relying heavily on what the Mueller investigators, SDNY and Congress dug up.

I think first, they're going after him for tax fraud since they can now compare his state and federal tax returns with his other financial records and have conclusive proof he filed fraudulent state tax returns and submitted false documentation to the state, banks, insurance companies, etc. And his obnoxious criminal offspring, too.

I think he and his family are soon going to bitterly regret that he ever ran for president.
