49. I've certainly heard "deep state" conspiracy talk from lefties back in the 80s

I don't recall whether they used that exact phrase. I think maybe it was "permanent government" because administrations came and went, but the lifers in various agencies remained. This was in regard to the CIA, FBI, and thwarting of reform efforts stemming from 1970s investigation of abuses.
