(26,432 posts)55. Yes, it's true that a lot of Scots-Irish
(Scots from Northern Ireland) settled in the plateaus, foothills, and mountains of Appalachia as small farmers in colonial times. It is not true that today they are inherently, by ethnicity or by where they live, racial supremacists or supporters of the Proud Boys.
There are RW extremists of the Proud Boys type in the Midwest, and even in parts of my own state of NY. It is not accurate to characterize the Scots-Irish in America or people of Appalachia as Proud Boys stereotypes.
