(5,961 posts)..not on you, Applegrove. On the story.
I remember stories identical to this in 1992 - how Kennebunkport didn't want the Bushes coming back. They came around to loving the Bushes again. Palm Beach likes claiming Trump as theirs, and even though they are sick of the inconvenience of him coming and going, they will love him again soon enough.. The irony is that when he bought Mar A Lago from the Feds, Palm Beach was still very much old money (as in Guilded Age and before) and Trump was despised as a nouveau riche interloper. He originally wanted to build houses on the land - the town wouldn't let him. But as time went on, he bought more golf courses, got older, and became part of the establishment. Now he's President for another 5 weeks. Then he'll become a semi-permanent fixture - but without the hyper annoying closures of roads, etc. any time he does anything. When he's not doing rallies, he'll be holding court at Mar A Lago - bragging on the next trophy wife, railing against the libs, and regaling his rich buddies with stories about how he and a 5-iron is all that stood between this nation and communism.
