Trump could insist that Pence and "Mother" meet with him on television and promise, under God's own witness, to pardon Trump after Trump, by resigning, transfers the baton of the presidency to Pence.
Pence would claim to be doing it for the good of the country and because Jesus spoke to him. But having made a public pledge, it would be difficult for him to retire from political life (effective January 20, 2021) with any semblance of integrity were he to renege on that pledge. But, as I think of it, Pence could have it both ways by issuing the pardon but observing that 1: "Of course, this pardon does not free Mr. Trump of being held to criminal account by the state of New York for the many crimes he and his family stand accused of committing there. Nor does it apply to any Federal crimes he may commit after the issuance of this blanket pardon" and 2: "I issue this parson solely in the interests of the nation and not because I find any justification for the Federal crimes Mr. Trump stands accused of having committed."
